The good news: Police captured one of Canton's most-wanted crime suspects last week, and the crime rate as a whole decreased last year. The bad news: The number of rapes and murders increased last year. The worse news: Any progress made under Mayor Healy's new crime initiative is destined to backslide without new opportunities for gainful employment.

In the coming months, Cantonians could gain more control over their city. The city council will decide if it wants to draft a charter and do away with a government based on Ohio statutory law. The potential benefit of a charter government is that the city could operate based on the wants and needs of its people.
